Better be the head of a dog than the tail of a lion.
Some prefer turnips and others pears.
as lean as a rail
clean hand
It was by no means a bed of rose.
He cries wine and sells vinegar.
as pale (or white) as ashes (or sheet or death)
as red as rose
as clear as daylight
All shall be well, Jack shall have Jill.
He robs Peter to pay Paul.
Diamonds cut Diamonds.
Pay on the spot and borrow a lot; pay slow and you'll get no dough.
