A mobile phone can now detect whether leftovers in your fridge are safe to eat or should be discarded, the Daily Mail reported.
Researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles, have developed a device that attaches to mobile handsets that can detect small amounts of E. coli in liquid samples.
The device consists of glass capillary tubes with LED lights on either end. It is able to selectively detect low concentrations of E. coli, bacteria which can cause severe food borne disease, in water samples and milk.
The findings have been published in the Royal Society of Chemistry journal Analyst.
