Battle of Nanjing

Following the battle of Shanghai, the Japanese invaded Nanjing in early December 1937. Just 13 days after the outbreak, the city fell into the Japanese hands. About 50,000 Chinese soldiers were killed in the battle. Starting from December 13, the day that the Japanese captured Nanjing, the Japanese perpetrated a six-week massacre in the city. Over 300,000 Chinese civilians and soldiers were slaughtered and the Japanese committed widespread rape and looting.
