Battle of Taiyuan

It was a major battle between China and Japan lasting two months from September 11 to November 9 in 1937. The battle, named for Taiyuan (capital of North China's Shanxi Province), held back a large number of Japanese troops which could have been diverted to other campaigns. Both sides suffered heavy casualties, including about 100,000 on the Chinese side and about 30,000 on the other side.
