| The preferential rate of acquisition tax on cars with less than 1.6L engines is to be abolished next year, according to an official from the National Development and Reform Committee (NDRC), Xiaoxiang Morning Post reports. Consumers who spend 100,000 yuan on cars with engine capacities of 1.6L or under will have to pay an additional 2,317 yuan (about US$350) compared with this year. |

| A British MP whose parliamentary aide was arrested over claims of being a Russian spy has challenged the security services to "prove their point now," the BBC reports. Liberal Democrat Mike Hancock said Katia Zatuliveter, 25, had nothing to hide, and he backs her 100 percent and would appeal. Zatuliveter faces deportation proceedings after she was taken into custody on the orders of MI5, the Sunday Times reports. It is believed to be the first time since the end of the Cold War that someone working in Parliament has been accused of spying for the Russians, the Sunday Times reports. Zatuliveter started working as an assistant to Hancock in 2008. She had previously been an intern at the House of Commons and had worked in Europe. |

| Three Russian navigation satellites failed to enter orbit after being launched on a Proton-M rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Sunday. The three Glonass satellites were intended to form part of Russian's own GPS system which is supposed to go into operation next year. |

| A man wearing a police uniform hit an elderly woman in her leg yesterday in Jilin Province's Changchun City. They quarreled, and the man attacked her and her daughter, but later angry bystanders intervened and he retreated to his car. About 1,000 people were drawn to the scene. Some were so furious that they attacked his car. The crowd was dispersed three hours later. It was said that the man was not actually a policeman. He was given 15 days detention and fined 500 yuan, the City Evening News reports. |
