| Located in Duchang County of Jiangxi Province, the waters near the Laoye Temple of Poyang Lake have been called the "waters of death" by locals, the Chongqing Evening News reports. From the early 1960s to the late 80s, more than 200 vessels sunk there, leaving over 1,600 people missing. Infrared images revealed a 2-kilometer-sandbank under the waters. One theory was that this sandbank had blocked flowing waters and generated huge whirlpools that engulfed vessels. |

| China's box office receipts reached 7.58 billion yuan in the first three quarters of the year, Xinhua reports. Chinese films brought in 3.84 billion yuan, with the rest brought in by foreign films. Hollywood blockbuster "Avatar" was the biggest earner, setting a box office record of 1.3 billion yuan. "Aftershock" was the highest-grossing Chinese film of the year, taking in 660 million yuan. China's box office is expected to take in 10 billion yuan by the end of the year. |

| Elena Bodnar, a Chicago doctor said her invention, an "Emergency Bra" that can be quickly converted into a pair of gas masks, is now available for purchase online. Bodnar, who won the Ig Nobel prize last year at Harvard University for her unusual but useful invention, said the bra is available for $29.95 at ebbra.com, UPI reported citing the New York Daily News. The bra is available in only B and C cup sizes in red for now, but Bodnar says they soon will offer it in black and white too. |

The new service is available as a test starting Tuesday in 13 countries and will be on sale worldwide next year. |
