| Chinese authorities have shut down more than 60,000 pornographic websites since launching a crackdown on internet and phone porn in Dec. 2009, Xinhua reports. The National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications said Tuesday that nearly 1.8 million websites have been checked since the launch of the campaign, and 2,197 cases of dissemination of online pornography have been dealt with. The office received more than 160,000 porn-related tip-offs from the general public and paid out about more than half a million yuan to 516 informers. Companies and government departments also joined in the campaign. China Mobile Yunnan Branch organized 20 employees who are mothers of teenagers to help monitor mobile WAP sites. |

| Carrots are supposed to be good for eyesight, but now doctors say they reduce the risks of suffering from heart disease and can protect against cancer, the Daily Telegraph reports. | Firemen in a Paris suburb rescued a 69-year-old woman who had been stuck in her bathroom for 20 days by a broken lock, AFP reports. The woman survived by drinking warm water and tried to call for help by tapping on the pipes. She was finally rescued when neighbors called the police to complain about people doing repair work at night. |
